Clean Margaritas
Cinco De Mayo is coming up, and for me that means one thing....Margaritas!! (and all the appropriate things to eat with those margaritas). I tend to make them two ways, mostly depending on how many people I'm making them for and how much time/effort I want to put into drinks! These are a little more waistline forgiving then the other way, and require a tad more effort, but the end result is completely worth it! Head to your favorite bulk store, grab a bag or two of limes, get your party pitcher out and make sure you have some kind of citrus juicer or press! You won't be sorry!
What ya need:
Tequila, limes, oranges, lemons, water, honey, and salt.
Step one: Make your honey syrup. Add 1/4 cup honey and 1/4 cup water to a small sauce pan and simmer on low until it all melts together, allow to cool.
Step two: Juice all the citrus. 2 cups lime juice (about 20 limes), 1/4 cup lemon juice (about 2 lemons), 1/4 cup orange juice (about 1 orange).
Step three: Add everything together! Stir it up, prepare your cups with or without salt and drink up!
Recipe:
750 ml Blanco Tequila
2 cups lime juice
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup orange juice
1/2 cup honey syrup (*Recipie below)
1/2 cup water
Slices of limes, lemons, and oranges
Corse salt
Ice
* To make honey syrup combine 1/4 cup light colored honey with 1/4 water, simmer on low until the honey completely dissolves, allow to cool then store in fridge up to 1 week.
Extras:
* To salt the rim of your glass simply cut a lime into wedges, put a small slit into the middle of one wedge and run it around the rim of your glass, then dip the rim into a shallow bowl of kosher salt.
* You can sub equal parts of agave or cane sugar instead of honey to make the honey syrup. Any form of "simple syrup" will work!
* I like to use a middle of the road tequila for this simple of a drink, but you can use whatever brand you have or love!
* Throw your own party! Here's a few ideas to make with the margaritas! Chicken tacos, Salsa, Guacamole, Fajitas!
*This makes a pitcher of margarita's and will serve 12-15 margaritas.
